‘At first Kemp moved with
t'ai-chi-like slowness, standing with arms outstretched in a manner
reminiscent of the artist's famous anatomical drawings (and with a
physique such as might well have brought a smile to the lips of the Mona
Lisa), but later in Compère's marvellous song Le grant désir the
flow of movement was perfectly matched to that of the music.
The musicians of Concordia played with stylistic ease
and polish, the shifting instrumental colours being as subtle and well
thought out as the lighting. The countertenor
Robin Blaze sang with beauty of tone and elegance of phrasing and for once
the texts of these strophic songs were
performed in full, as no doubt they would have been in the artist's
studio. |
